Pet Digital X-Rays in Prince George, BC

How Do X-rays for Pets Work?

Retrieving immediate, high-resolution images of your pet’s bones, organs, and tissues.

At CHVC, we use digital X-rays at our clinic in Prince George to help us determine the cause of many types of symptoms in your pet dogs, cats, and ferrets.

Digital X-rays for pets allow us to retrieve immediate, high-resolution images of your pet’s bones, organs, and tissues for diagnostic purposes. X-rays work by passing a small amount of electromagnetic radiation through the body to create images. Different tissues absorb the radiation differently, which lets us easily differentiate between air, bone, soft tissue, and the occasional disappearing sock.

Why We Use X-Rays for Pets

X-rays are very diverse in their utility as a diagnostic tool.

We use them for detecting bone and joint disease or injury, heart disease, organ abnormalities, foreign bodies, arthritis, and tumors. The digital format we use produces instant excellent-quality images, which can be shared with you in the exam room, and emailed to Veterinary Specialists when required for further consultation.

What to Expect from Your Pet’s X-Ray Appointment

When you bring your pet in, they’ll need to stay still while we take the X-rays.

Often this is quick and easy, but if your pet is very scared, uncomfortable or sick, we may need to sedate them prior to taking X-rays. We never want to cause undue stress to pets.

If we have reason to believe this is the case, we’ll warn you ahead of time, otherwise, you may need to come back another day after having your pet fast for 12 hours. Sedation should wear off within a few hours and then you can bring them home.

Most of the time, however, this is a simple process. We’ll see the X-rays immediately, and discuss the results with you as well as our next steps.
